Do I Need a Flyer ID or Operator ID? (Free UK Checker)

Not sure what the UK rules mean for your drone? Answer three quick questions. Your answers stay in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere.

1. How much does your drone weigh (with its battery)?

Check the box, the drone's arm or the spec sheet. DJI Neo 2 ≈ 151g; DJI Mini, Lito and Flip are just under 250g with standard batteries. "Plus" batteries usually take them over 250g.

2. Does it have a camera?
3. How old is the person who'll fly it?

How this checker works

It applies the UK Civil Aviation Authority's rules for recreational flying in the Open category, as they stand from 1 January 2026:

  • Flyer ID is required to fly any drone weighing 100g or more.
  • Operator ID is required for drones of 100g or more with a camera, and for all drones of 250g or more. Operators must be 18+.
  • Children under 12 must be supervised by someone aged 16 or over; under-13s need a parent present for the Flyer ID test.

This checker is a guide, not legal advice. Commercial flying, the Specific category and special locations have extra rules — always check the latest from the CAA.
